We arrived this afternoon in Siem Reap, Cambodia, home of the Angkor Wat temples. Very different feel from Thailand -- a lot less infrastructure and a lot more simple dirt roads. Short ride from airport (where there were enough visa and customs officials to staff two full soccer teams). The taxi did about 20 mph for the entire ride, in part because of the large number of bicyclists and motorcyclists on the road. Police were stationed every 100 yards on both sides of the road -- we weren't sure why until we got to our hotel (Angkor Palace Resort & Spa) and discovered that the Cambodian Prime Minister is in town and staying at our hotel.
The hotel is relatively new and comfortable -- we were greeted upon arrival with a papaya drink and a Cambodian shawl, which the hostess draped around our necks. We were asked to sit down in comfortable chairs, and a staff person took our passports and credit cards to the front desk.
Off to the Angkor Wat temples in the morning with our guide Mr. Teng.

Jane and I are enjoying following your trip through SE Asia. Now you see why it's one of our favorite destinations and we keep going back for more...the people, food, sights, the whole package. We just booked Thailand again for January.
