Going into the Floods

Typhoons and related flooding have been wracking the Central region of Vietnam for the past few weeks. The latest threat is from Typhoon Peipah, which just left the Philippines and is expected to make landfall in Vietnam from November 9-11. We will be in Da Nang/Hoi An starting Monday November 12. I think we’ll see some serious flooding – should be interesting.

Floods hit earlier this year in that area, and also in mid-October. The old town part of Hoi An has seen flooding as of this past Friday (up to 3 feet!). The meteorologists are blaming La Nina (unusual cooling of Pacific Ocean surface temperatures that occurs every three to five years and often follows El Nino, a warming of Pacific waters). I guess I’ll pack the umbrella.

So much effort to leave so little comment!

Be safe, Brian! We're counting on you for turkey this year!

Hi Sweetie, it will be weird to talk this way. Cousin Sue from Duluth wants to come for Turkey day with husband and teenage daughter. Ok with you? She is very sweet. KIM

Hope you got some good snoring in during the flight and that you're not TOO jet lagged.

News: 1) Phil's having the stent put in Friday morning, so keep him in your prayers. 2) The Rockies are NOT trading Garrett Atkins, but it sounds as if the Twins will make Santana available at the summer trading deadline. 3) I'll bring the sweet potatoes and play Alice's Restaurant on Thanksgiving.

Have fun and keep that passport dry! (Reminds me of Typhoon Olive at the base of Mt. Fuji in 1971 when some dufus left his passport in the mud!)
